I woke up this morning with the intention to enjoy this bank holiday weekend and do some of the things I enjoy (visit mum, watch Dr Who on her TV, go to market, blog, garden, play with the kids, read something totally unworthy but fun, make something with the green beads I picked out).
Instead, by the time I got back from Chigwell Rise Boot Sale and the dentist, I was a mess, the kids were in various stages of dress (thanks to their dad) and the house was a tip. So I decided to engage in some domestic therapy. I've spent nearly the whole day cleraing up the store cupborads, my closets, the spare room (and the left over junk from various guests) and the kids toy shelves.
At the end of that I was pooped, thirsty, hungry but felt much more peaceful knowing where everything was and that extra stuff was ready to go to either a charity shop, relatives in pakistan or a boot sale stall of our own later in the year. Now I'm off to my good friends house as she's invited me to try her Sindhi Biryani, will take a box of mango's (the first Pakistani ones are turning up) as the two seem just right together.

Aslamu alakum sister
ReplyDeletewell those before and after snaps really show you have worked hard! certainly deserved that buriyani, was it nice? I am not a cleaning mission at the mo, as the weather is up in the 30's oC finally, now algeria will start its annual cleaning of heavier and thicker items , blankets, covers, rugs ect easier to dry, but i have lost the keys well the kids have to the balcony's and area i will use for drying, so i am a little stuck as i am heading to the UK for the summer vacation inshaAllah. I think your post inspired me , i am going to start on clossets and drawers too and maybe just maybe the keys will turn up?
Assalam-alaikam Sis Rainbow,
ReplyDeleteThe biryani was lovely thanks, my friend always sees to get it right. I'm not all that domestically inclined (read lazy) but sometimes it gets bad enough to do your head in.
Everytime I lose something I say Inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raji'oon and it usually turns up. But a good tidy up turns up all sorts of things you didn't realise you had (like my dad-in-laws specs and boot polish and Little Lady's back pack that I went mad looking for in time for her trip and couldn't find).
I like your thinking by the way. winter in Algeria and a chunk of summer in the UK.
opps, i was ment to say 'iam on a cleaning mission' well thanks sister coz after your post, i got cracking enfact the whole clan did and alhamduillah we say audo bilahi minash shatani rajem and stuff turns up but then i often say that anyhow, wel we found the keys and i washed the balcony and the dreaded windows we got dd2 as she is the petit and small one out onto the mental security bars to scrub the windows on the outside, all in all a great effort and its clean and now i can start the rug washing ect it started raining so i opted for a shower and a nice cupa chai and my crochet instead alhamduillah. Yes i do it every year we spend 3 months in the UK for the past 3 years mashaAllah as it does get too hot here and no point me hanging around getting cabin fever when dh is in the UK. Maybe we can met up ( has to be down Green St lol) for a desi samosa? Would be nice to put a face to the post. I promise I am not dangerous!
ReplyDeleteAssalam-alaikam Sis Rainbow,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you found your keys. Would love to meet you for a samosa in Green Street when you come down here, would be fun.
Asalaamu Alaikum Umm Salihah,
ReplyDeleteThe hubster and I cleaned this long weekend. He even shampooed the carpets! He was so pleased at the house he was like, "It's like when we first moved in! I looks great!" I'm admittedly not the best cleaner so I was really happy at that compliment :).
ma'a salaamah,
ha
Assalam-alaikam Sis HA,
ReplyDeleteisn't it great to have a clean house?
I don't know about shampooing carpets, when my in-laws visited they both scrubbed my carpets and sofa clean with a sponge and washing powder for Eid. I loved them a lot at that moment.
