Little Sister’s Hijab

I am soooo proud of my youngest sister (and she’s going to be deeply embarrassed at this) because she has started to wear hijab.

It takes guts and I always knew Kooky didn’t care what anyone thought about her, well now more than ever she will have to remember not to care what anyone but Allah (SWT) says.
So Kooks, say goodbye to your little ears and hello to lots of dumb questions (Aren’t you hot in that? Do you wear it at home? Do you wear it because you’re married? Is your husband making you wear it? Do you wear it in the shower?).

A gentle reminder also, to all those beloved sisters who are making the decision to cover their hair. Kudos to you for your guts, style and attitude; may Allah reward you for submitting to his command. But remember that you are visible as a Muslimah now, a walking, living, breathing da’ee. When someone says something nasty to you, please try not to hit/abuse/scare them. I know it feels good, but the next sister to come along will suffer the consequence. Please try to be kind and gentle in your dealings, please take every chance to hold open doors, smile at senior citizens (nice smile, not deranged shark smile) and give up your seat when you can. It’s not much, but the next sister that comes along will benefit from your actions insh’Allah (and it might be me!).

    Assalaamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,

Mash'Allah I'm proud of you too Kooky even thought I don't know you. haha.

Very good advice sister regarding your actions. I believe Muslim women especially have people watching us as we are easily recognizable as Muslims. This presents an excellent opportunity to give da'wah simply through our manners and actions. As the Prophet (saw) said: 'The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character.' (Translation of Sahih Bukhari)

  6. Assalamu alaykum ;)

I couldnt have said it better myself. A true way to pay it forward to our sisters in Islam.

Mabrouk to Kooky on her decision to wear hijab! My regards to Fashionista too.

Just out of curiosity, how many books do you read per month? I am fascinated by your book reviews.

  7. Assalam-alaikam,
    what kind comments alhamdulillah.

Sisters Umm Nassim and Umm Yusuf, thanks for your encouragement, I hope you are both well.

Look Kooky, you got a stalker called Anony ;)

    Sis HA,
big knife!!, there is soo a desi lurking in you somewhere.

"please try not to hit/abuse/scare them" - you don't know kooky - she may be my sweet pretty little sister, but she's mean looking

There you are Sister iMulsimah - your little sweetheart tic-tac toes has been keeping you busy hasn't he? You've not posted for a while, I hope you're taking good care of yourself.
I read on the bus to and from work, in bed, after fajr salah on a weekend and whenever I have a quiet mo and the kids are busy or hubby's not around. I probably get through 10-15 a month I think. It used to annoy my better half and I promised I wouldn't read when he was there, now he is hooked too, he's worse than me when he has his face in a book. Alhamdulillah it also rubs off on the kids.

Thanks for reading the reviews, I wondered if they were any use, because they are mostly all so positive and not very critical at all (maybe I'm easily pleased, maybe I'm getting good at picking good books)
