Red Nose Day 2009

It’s the annual craziness that is Red Nose Day which this year more than ever feels like it is becoming a national institution. As usual the children were expected to wear red to school and pay £1 for the privelege. We did buy them red noses but the baby bit both in half. I had intended to buy them new ones and maybe a red cowboy hat or a red silly hair band – but forgot. I did remember to put red outfits out for them, but when I called my husband at 8.35 to remind him to give both their teachers the pound coin, he asked “what for?” “the no-uniform day?” “oh – I put her in uniform” – “Oh no you didn’t, no way…”. Thankfully he got her changed quick time and sent her off suitably in red.

I should be used to this. This seems to happen to us AAALL the time. I seem to be turning into the last-minute queen (there’s definitely an idea for a blog in that – lastminutemum.com). Anyway, I'm sure I left Little Man a red dinosaur t-shirt to wear, but they had fun:

I believe in joining in where halal, so dug out a few bits of red too (they were a lot brighter shade than in this pic):

You can still donate through the website because of course my brothers and sisters in Islam are the most generous of sadiqeen, and if you are really in the giving mood you can still help the sister in Washington DC, the amazing community in Columbo and our precious little sisters in Zambia that my good sisters have been calling for assistance for.

“The likeness of those who spend for Allah’s sake is as the likeness of a grain of corn, it grows seven ears every single ear has a hundred grains, and Allah multiplies (increases the reward of) for whom He wills, and Allah is sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower).” (Qur’an, 2:261)

“Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public have their reward with their Rabb (only God and Sustainer). On them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.” (Qur'an, 2:274)

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah’s Messenger (SAW) as saying: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim)

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said, “Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in Your cause’, and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every miser.’” (Bukhari)
