The funniest thing happened the other day. We were all watching TV at my mum’s when my mother-in-law and husband started pointing at the screen and shouting “there he is!”
On the Pakistani ARY and Geo TV Channels and on the British Islam Channel, the adhaan (call to prayer) is announced everyday accompanied by a video of people performing pilgrimage at our holy places in Makkah and Madinah. This is a montage of older and more recent footage spliced together. Someone had told my mother-in-law that they had seen her father-in-law (hubby’s grandfather) in one of the clips. We clearly spotted him walking towards the camera in between the hills of Safa and Marwa (a little old man with a white beard and white hat). This part of the footage was fairly old, because hubby’s grandfather spent a few months in Saudi about 30 years ago. In another part of the clip, we also spotted another man from my grandfather’s village, again the footage was about 30 years old. What are the chances given the millions who travel to perform hajj every year?
Incidentally, I have also been told by a number of people that I can be seen in the advert for the second Global Peace and Unity Conference which was held in 2007. The advert contains video recordings from the first GPU event in 2006 which I attended. I am wearing a bright pink pashmina and standing next to my hubby and the pram with an infant Little Man inside. I have yet to see this, so I am very curious.
