Gifts From Over The Pond

One thing I absolutely love is receiving parcels in the post. iMuslimah very kindly sent me this bumper stash to play with. I have to admit the craft materials you get in the USA are way better (and cheaper I think) than what is available over here, so everything she sent was an absolute treat.

I'm in love with the ribbons and bling and iMuslimah's timing could not have been better. I am most creative when I am relaxed and at the moment I was feeling stressed enough to get creative block. This stash has really got my creative juices flowing.

The choclate didn't last five minutes, as soon as I opened the package, the Baby grabbed it and tried to make a run for it. I'm going to save this for one of those days when it all gets too much and I need to shut my door grab a good book and savour some chocolate.

She was generous enough to send the children gifts too, which will help me keep them occupied during the school holidays.

My favourite though was the lovely card which currently lives in my bedroom, but will take pride of place on an inspiration board once I get one going insh'Allah.

Card pics to follow soon!!

  1. I agree about craft items being cheaper and more varied. In Peru stuff is really expensive. I can't believe how much even crayons or markers cost. I love August in America, because back to school shopping includes super cheap school supplies. Notebooks, 10/$1. Markers (crayola brand) for under a dollar. Boxes of Crayola brand crayons, 3 or 4 for a dollar. Then there are stores where you can get everything for a dollar, including craft supplies. And don't get me started about yarn. I love to crochet (I am addicted, actually), and yarns and threads sometimes cost two to three times as much as at Walmart in America.

Enjoy your stash!! Sorry your chocolate disappeared so fast! I love Ghirardelli chocolate. I have to hide chocolate sometimes, or boys tear through it in no time.

  2. Hamdullah Im happy you are happy and like everything :) You just made my day with this post! I had a rough weekend I am having a worrisome week (baby sick)!

You know what UmmSalihah? Things like this are always better shared.
I cant wait to see what you come up with.

    What is "bumper"????

    Salams,

    iMuslimah

I hope you are destressing and the rest of your week improves inshaallah.

The hubster asked me to make some masculine Ramadan & Eid cards, having creativity block.

  3. iMuslimah, you are very kind to have sent that "care package" such a long distance.

"Bumper" in this case refers to abundant or plenty. It comes from the phrase "a bumper crop," when farmers
would have a very good harvest, and there is more than expected. I am from Iowa, and the old farmers
    still use the phrase.

Take care, and have a lovely day!

  8. Assalam-alaikam,

    Hi Elizabeth,
iMuslimah's description's of craft stores in the US really did have my yearning for a trip over there, so her little gift really made my week.

    Sis iMuslimah dear,
bumper means super, great m(usually as in bumper harvest), it's hilarious, we really do speak two different languages sometimes.

I am so sorry to hear about iBaby, your little family is in my dua's hon.

    Elizabeth,
thanks for the explanation, i just scrolled down and read it.

    Anonymous,
mash'Allah, I have found lots of generous spirits amongst the sisters in the blogosphere, which has been a nice, and surprising, outcome of blogging.

    Sister C,
Oh I can't wait to get strated, she really has got me going with ideas, her stuff is so lovely.
You should check out some of the blog swaps, they are great fun.

    Umm Nassim,
baby likes anything he can get his hands on. I always make him say "I will go to sleep on time every day insh'Allah" before I give him the chocolate, he seems to know he is being entrapped in some way and resists and resists.

    Sis EP,
At the moment the stuff is all stashed in my room. I yearn for a proper craft area/corner, but it's not happening yet (the fish-tank took the space I was hoping for). Last week the baby broke my paper-trimmer and today he chopped my "hand-made by Umm Salihah" labels to bits. You just have to let it go as all the shiny and sticky stuff is too tempting for them. I will try to take some pictures of my crafts area to give an idea of how I store the stuff insh'Allah.
