Visit To Scotland (Summer 2013): The Falkirk Wheel

On the recommendations of our host we visited the Falkirk Wheel,  a rotating boat lift that connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal in order to open up the canals for use again.

The wheel was interesting and the park surrounding it was lovely with a lake, Roman walking route into a nearby forested area and really nice play area for children with water games.

We made the mistake of paying to get onto the boat ride that gets you onto the wheel and around a chunk of the canal...

We spent almost one hour getting on the boat, going up, going around a small stretch of water surrounded by grass, coming back, coming down again and waiting for something to happen the whole time.  Which it didn't.

I would visit this place for the park, the atmosphere and the various play areas, but give the boat trip a miss.
