The quote for Day 4 of Ramadan from my box of things to think about was:
“I
once had a thousand desires, but in my one desire to know you, all else melted
away.” ~ Maulana Rumi
I
absolutely love this thought of the day, partly because there is something beautiful
about it. Mainly because it speaks so powerfully to who I am not; but aspire to
be. This quote makes me think of letting
go of all my worldly desires, my ambitions, my dreams and desire to do more and
be more. Instead to be satisfied with
and contented with my relationship with Allah (SWT) and wanting nothing else
other than to know Allah (SWT).
I
often think I am too absorbed in the world; I am interested in everything, I find
enjoyment in everything: books, food, people, family, even work. I want to travel everywhere to see everything
and to experience everything. On the one
hand I am grateful for what Allah (SWT) has given me, on the other I think I forget sometimes that
this world isn’t a place of enjoyment for Muslims, but a test and a very brief
one at that. I hope that this is where I
find myself one day: in my desire to know Allah (SWT), I let all other desires
melt away insh’Allah.
