Al-Basri (RA)
Alhamdulillah, there is so much to
unpick and mull over in this one statement. What are be encouraged to
prioritise and value? Knowledge, careful thought and reflection and reason on
the one hand and good character and self-restraint on the other. A recipe for a beautiful character –
moderate, tempered, thoughtful and modest.
The hard part is becoming that person,
but what Hassan Al-Basri’s (RA) statement does do, is create a vision of where
we want to end up insh’Allah.
