Eid ul Fitr 2020:1441 - The Night Before

We like to start Eid in this house as soon as it starts – not on the day of Eid but sunset the night before when it is confirmed. Usually that means neighbours coming over and bringing sweets. The main street at the end of our road turns into one big party and we take turns to go for walks along it with neighbours or family.  There are henna and jewellery stalls everywhere and the Asian dress shops are open past midnight. If my husband hasn’t bought me a gift, he usually takes me to pick a gift or dress.

This year there were no celebrations and no neighbours visiting. But we still wanted to celebrate, so I encouraged everyone to wear their nice outfits and we put up decorations that we had made:

Alhamdulillah, these are days that we have been gifted with to celebrate guilt free. It felt quieter. But still joyous and we are no less thankful.
