Our Ramadan Giving series highlights the amazing work charities are doing and showcases their special Ramadan campaigns, giving us all the opportunity to support, donate and do a little good insh’Allah

Ramadan Giving Day 16: Forgotten Women
Forgotten Women is a charity run by women for women, a charity dedicated to helping women in crisis and emergencies. The charity was set up after witnessing first-hand the ‘sex for aid’ and manipulation of women in vulnerable situations.

Their campaign newsletter states:
It is common that women and young girls are being asked for indecent acts in exchange for food aid. Women, married, single, divorced and adolescent girls are among the most vulnerable. In a society like Yemen, men shield and protect the women from danger, abduction and sexual attacks. This crisis has created an easy environment for women to be exploited and violated of their dignity. Conditions are placed upon a woman, either compromise your dignity or no food, when faced with potential death by starvation, the choices are limited - it’s that simple.

Their safe toilets project really struck me:
In the world’s largest refugee camp, Rohingya women feel they are risking their lives to use the toilet. Many women, whilst attending the call of nature have been sexually abused and in some cases young girls have been abducted. Forgotten Women is on the ground in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh constructing much needed safe toilets for women. Our needs assessment revealed that women are in desperate need of female only facilities. The aim of this project is to protect the dignity of women.

Their current campaigns include their Nation in Crisis coronavirus campaign, Yemen: Covid-19 & Mass Starvation campaign and Emergency Safe Aid, which only allows women on the front line to deliver aid.

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: “The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was the most generous person, and he used to become more so (generous) particularly in the month of Ramadan…more generous than the fast wind in doing good” (Bukhari).

The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

"Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned." ~ Quran 2:245

Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind." (Daraqutni)
