Ramadan Giving Day 29: Muslim
Charity Helping the Needy
Muslim Charity provides emergency relief during and after a
disaster has struck, but also focuses on addressing underlying causes of
poverty, such as health, education and economic development. For almost two decades,
they have delivered aid and development programmes to transform the lives of
the world’s most vulnerable communities.
Their
mission is carried out by developing health and educational infrastructures
along with providing access to safe water and creating opportunities for
livelihoods. They are currently running a campaign called Children of the
Brothel, which aims to open a Day and Night Centre. This is a cause that is
close to my heart, I have been following the stories of Bangladeshi photojournalist
MB Akash, and have been moved by his stories of the most
vulnerable people, including the girls that end up in brothels. They are devastating
and leave you with a sense of deep sadness and wanting to do something.
The
Children of the
Brothel campaign is raising
funds for a new centre Muslim Charity have created in Daulatdia, the biggest brothel in
Bangladesh and fourth biggest in the world. It houses over 2,000 sex workers
and 800+ children. It ‘serves’ over 3,000 clients each day and exposes these
children to an environment where they are groomed at a very early age.
The
safe home is somewhere children can leave the brothel and stay during the day
and night. They will receive love, care, and support from dedicated members of
staff who understand their complex situation and needs.

O you who have believed, spend
from that which We have provided for you ~ Quran 2:254
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: “The
Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him)
was the most generous person, and he used to become more so (generous)
particularly in the month of Ramadan…more generous than the fast wind in doing good”
(Bukhari).
The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi
wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “The believer’s shade
on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
"Who is it that would
loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it
is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be
returned." ~ Quran 2:245
Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam
(peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "The best of people are
those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind." (Daraqutni)
