Smile My Lovely Sisters and Brothers

I wonder if this blog sometimes can come across a bit Mary Poppins, I do try to be positive and see the good in life, but I don’t like to hide the painful or dark bits. I know the last two months will have been hard on most people and even more tough on the ones dealing with bereavement, facing poverty or feeling lonely or lost.

This week I spoke with all of my close family: my mum and dad on FaceTime, my uncles on the phone, my sisters on WhatsApp, with one of them visiting to drop off chocolate cake for the kids and catch up at a distance from my front door.

It made me realise how much I missed everyone, missed my mum’s hugs and cooking. The likelihood is we will get to the end of Ramadan and not gather for Eid, sharing food and watching our children play.

But I know it is temporary and we just have to be patient, take a day at a time, help and support each other and wait till we get to the end of this. I pray that we get to the end with all of us (and you) safe, well and healthy insh’Allah.

I just wanted to share some of the positive messages and images that have helped me a little (or a lot).

Smile my lovely sisters and brothers, even if you don feel like it right now, even if you don’t mean it, Allah’s promise is true:
Indeed, there is ease with hardship.
Most certainly, there is ease with hardship.
~ Quran 94:5-6

“Wondrous is the affair of the believer for there is good for him in every matter and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah and thus there is good for him. If he is harmed, then he shows patience and thus there is good for him” (Muslim).

Al Halimi said: “The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) used to love optimism, because to believe in evil omens is to suspect bad of Allāh without reason. Optimism is to suspect good of Allāh and the believer has been ordered to suspect good of Allāh during every situation.”
